First charter obtained for the town by the Abbot of Ramsey to hold a market on Wednesdays

King Henry III confirms the Market Charter

Edward III visits Ramsey

1539

Ramsey Abbey closed down by the dissolution.

1627

Sir Sydney Montagu takes up residence at Ramsey Abbey House

1636

Fire in the Little Whyte, 15 houses destroyed and others damaged

1731

Major fire in the town centre

1839

Ramsey Abbey House considerably altered and enlarged

1854

The 'Arch' or rather the huge culvert now below the Great Whyte is completed

1863

Ramsey Northern Railway Station opens

1877

The Abbey Rooms were built

1888

The Town Clock erected in the Great Whyte in memory of the First baron de Ramsey

1889

Ramsey Southern Station opens

Census total population 5,352, 2,745 males and 2,607 females

Town is lit for the first time with gas lamps and a new Police Station opens in the Great Whyte
